Digital Systems Design | السنة الثانية | This course introduces students to the basic concepts of digital systems, including analysis and design. Both combinational and sequential logic will be covered. Students will gain experience with several levels of digital systems, from simple logic circuits to programmable logic devices and hardware description language. |
Digital Image Processing | السنة الخامسة | The course emphasis is upon learning digital image processing via a number of programming assignments. Digital images are introduced as two-dimensional sampled arrays of data. The course begins with one-to-one operations such as image addition and subtraction and image descriptors such as the histogram. Basic filters such as the gradient and Laplacian in the spatial domain are used to enhance images. The 2-D Fourier transform is introduced and frequency domain operations such as high and low-pass filtering are developed. It is shown how filtering techniques can be used to remove noise and other image degradation. The different methods of representing color images are described and fundamental concepts of color image transformations and color image processing are developed. The concepts of image redundancy and information theory are shown to lead to image compression. Lossless and lossy image processing algorithms such as LZW will be covered and related to image compression standards such as JPEG. Programming assignments will use MATLAB and the MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox. |
Distributed Systems | السنة الخامسة | This course provides an in-depth examination of the principles of distributed systems in general, and distributed operating systems in particular. Covered topics include processes and threads, concurrent programming, distributed interprocess communication, distributed process scheduling, shared virtual memory, distributed file systems, security in distributed systems, distributed middleware and applications such as the web and peer-to-peer systems. Some coverage of operating system principles for multiprocessors will also be included. Computer Organization and Design | السنة الثالثة | This course has been designed with two goals in mind.
The first is to cover basic concepts on which the stored program digital computer is formulated. These include the functional units of a computer (hardware), the flow (buses) and storage (memory management) of information, the representation and manipulation of numbers in binary form, and the five to seven levels around which any computer is designed. This goal addresses the question, how does a computer work and how is it organized.
The second goal is to provide students with a firm foundation for follow-on courses later in their program. In particular, the introduction to the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and assembly language programming provides a basis for Computer Architecture. While the material presented on gates, Boolean Logic and circuit designs provides a basis for further courses in digital design, computer engineering or microprocessor systems.understanding the interaction between computer hardware and software at various levels.
|
